Game Overview
MindsEye is a game designed to be highly cerebral and a first-person interface that narrates a psychological thriller that is just one breath from the blurring of the line between the real world and hallucinations caused by the revolutionary “Perception Shifting” mechanic of the game. In this game, gamers who are neuroscientists find themselves playing as a character who is stuck in a mindscape that is decaying, where the surroundings dynamically change according to their focus, stress, and even subtle eye movements that are tracked through optional biometric support.
The non-Euclidean level design of the game twists hallways into unbelievable spirals; it also turns empty objects into aneurysm-causing monstrosities when seen by the side of the eye; it further goes on to make players have to “unsee” the dangers by turning the eyes away consciously – hence, making the act of watching a skill of survival. Brain teasers in the game necessitate the control of two realities that cover each other at the same time, whilst a sanity mechanism gently turns the logic of the game more and more as the players undergo the puzzle of the glaring contrasts for longer and longer.
The plot is revealed by means of unreliable memories and peculiar voices, which are different from one playthrough to another because the AI director of the game is constantly monitoring players’ behaviour to trigger the individual’s deepest fears. With the spine-chilling biofeedback involvement and disturbing “cognitive glitches” that sometimes can even erase saved files or switch controls, MindsEye is not just a simulation of insanity—it is a process of un-making the player’s trust of their senses.
