Strategic Cult Building and Resource Management

In Worshippers of Cthulhu, all players become the leaders of a cult that aims to summon the Great Old One. Every person wants to become one of the members of Cthulhu’s cult, so every player should recruit followers, gather Arcanum’s blessings, and perform rituals. The proper management of resources mostly comprises eldritch artifacts, relics, and sacrifices, and conflicts primarily with investigators or rival cultists. Cultists can have set actions, among which are gathering resources, performing rituals, or sabotaging other players’ cults, which brings the element of depth and changes strategy in the game. Unleashing Dark Powers Through Rituals

Ceremonies are an essential activity for Worshippers of Cthulhu as they let players cast spells with Cthulhu’s effects that bring harm to enemies. All require the right amount and type of resources: mystical artifacts, symbols, or willing targets of the rituals. Ceremonies completed to the point allow the player to gain more powerful abilities, including strengthening one’s followers or summoning creatures to guard the base. However, like everything in Call of Cthulhu, rituals are not absolutely safe – failed attempts to invite Cthulhu or bring mutations among cultists, turning any ritual choice into a gamble whose consequences may affect the rest of the game. Player vs. Player and Cooperative Elements

Although the game is clearly based on the race to summon Cthulhu, Worshippers of Cthulhu provides some interesting cooperative moments. They may decide to ally themselves for a short time, and enemies who are tougher, such as powerful investigators or other cults, may not be able to handle themselves singly, but the probability of succeeding is very low. Cooperation makes it possible for players to exchange resources, and both have a positive outcome on each other’s rituals.

However, treachery is forever around the corner, and partnerships are generally short-lived. These dynamics lead to quite tense interactions when the player needs to decide whether to cooperate or betray his partner, thus making every meeting with non-playable characters much more interesting and involving.
