Game Overview
Dungeon Ascent is a merciless yet satisfying mashup of turn-based tactics and roguelike deck-building, where the players take a doomed adventuring party through a procedurally generated and constantly changing dungeon that is still energetically working against their escape. For example, a spell-scarred mage, a cursed knight, or a thief bound to a demonic pact—each character is a deck of abilities, synergies, and fatal flaws that get better (or worse) with each battle. Fighting is a harsh dance of positioning and resource management, where every move, attack, or spell consumes a shared “Stamina” pool, thus needing to make difficult choices between being aggressive and survival.
The dungeon itself is alive, with the rooms that can switch their locations even during the expedition, the traps that not only detect your strategies but also learn from them, and the enemies that are always a step ahead because they can figure out your party’s weaknesses and use them against you. Permadeath is, of course, a constant thorn in your side; however, the fallen comrades do “Echoes”—these are strong, one-time-use cards that can drastically change the game in favor of your future runs.
The grim, black ink, and old paper style of art combined with the story told only by mysterious pieces of lore make Dungeon Ascent the perfect marriage of strategic depth and atmospheric storytelling, a thrilling battle of brains and stamina where each climb might be your last.
